How can you make a lifted Jeep suspension more smooth on the road?

I want to buy a Jeep that is lifted, but I also want to use this as a road vehicle. Is there a way to 'loosen up' the lifted suspension to give is a smoother ride?|||they make eco lifts that use the stock springs. its just a spacer you could try that i think that go up to 4" with them including the rear shackles, depending what kind of jeep it is. idk if this would smooth it out but u are using stock softer spring|||Alfonzo. You can get better shocks and air down the tire pressure and you will get a little bit softer ride. Otherwise it's like what Alfonzo said a lot of lift kits use stiffer parts to get a better "product look" and unless you want to spend good money on a top off roading lift kit then it will be a firm ride.

Budget boost like 2" spacers and shackle/blocks with good riding shocks and lower tire pressure can have a better ride quality.

I'm running 5" lift kit with very good flex, nitrocharged shocks which are about 100$ a piece and tires on 30 PSI and still getting a decent ride but still a little rough.

(This is all I can really say to be blunt... Solid axles will always ride rougher then independent suspension)|||Get some Old Man Emu shocks. I've run probably 5 different makes of shocks and these are by far the smoothest riding. You could also get some of the adjustable Rancho shocks and set them to the number you like.

FYI - a body lift is just spacers between the body and frame, it has NOTHING to do with the springs.|||The ONLY thing you can do to soften up the ride is to get softer springs.

Since lift kits use firm springs to create the lift on the body - you're SOL

Which is more reliable and has better quality a Jeep Cherokee or a Jeep Liberty?

Sadly, it is time to move on from my '97 Jeep Cherokee :( We had great success with it, it lasted us a long time and has been a great ride. I would really like to stick with Jeeps and right now we're looking at a 2001 Jeep Cherokee or a 2002 Jeep Liberty. So which is a more reliable vehicle that will last a long time? I also would really like to get something with a manual transmission so any thoughts on that would be great.|||Stick with the Cherokee. The Liberty will have a softer ride because of the independent front suspension but the Cherokee's solid front axle is much stronger.|||That is like asking which is better: the flu or meningitis?

They are both awful.

You absolutely cannot purchase vehicles with worse build quality and reliability than the two you mentioned. Your 97 was probably one of the last cars Chrysler made that could be mentioned in the same sentence with the word "reliability" or "quality" and have that sentence not be part of a joke. Chrysler has been on a steady decline since the 80s, and by the time they got to 2001, they were without doubt the worst in the business - and still are, funny that!|||Cherokee is great, but I only hear good things about the Liberty as far as good Jeep transportation, but dosent handle suspention mods to well except lift disc's. Cherokee is a great stick|||Check Consumers Reports April 09 issue or the Dec. buyers guide for the best info. Available at your library.|||both are good/size is different/i have liberty and my wife drives/she likes it|||Hands down the Cherokee!

Avoid Grand Cherokees if you can but the good ol Cherokee is a good vehicle.

Liberty's, especially the early ones had a host of problems ranging from engine failures to wierd electrical problems to the worst rear brakes in modern automotive history. And they roll over alot easier. They are also more difficult to work on in most cases so repair costs will be higher when you have problems.

Yep stick with the Cherokee's

Just my opinion.

Good luck!

How can I fix up my Jeep to get the best trade-in value?

I currently have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with 75000 miles on it and some squeals here and there. What are the most beneficial (and cheap) actions I can take to upgrade its trade-in value?|||Yes you do clean it and lube it but, the main thing is to learn how to negociate with the salesman and finance department. I've seen nice clean cars that go in and get's traded in for a low value because the salesman hussle out the buyer. Usally bigger dealership will give you more money for it, but it also depends on how much is the car your planing to trade it in for cost. Put some pressure on the salesman and finance person, try a few dealership you will find someone who gives you a good deal. Just make sure your jeep runs good no squeek and do some research http://www.kellybluebook.com search for "trade in value" for your jeep. Good luck.|||The cheapest action is not to buy another jeep or suchlike...|||Wash it, Wax it, vacuum it really well. Make sure you have all the documentation in a really professional looking binder and it's up to date on all it's maintenance. A clean car increases the value dramatically.|||Get a good detail, and have them lube the chassis, that might help with some of the squeaks and rattles|||The best thing you can do is just clean it. If you do alot more than that, you won't get that money back in trade.|||Clear out your car, then wash, vacuum and wax it. Fix minor problems, or prepare to come down substantially in your asking price. Have a mechanic look at your car before you sell to help appraise its value. This will keep some buyers from telling you to lower the price by claiming the car needs significant work.

Research the vehicle's value in the Kelley Blue Book (kbb.com), and compare with other sellers' asking prices for the same vintage model. This will give you the basis for a realistic price (add a little more so you can comfortably bargain).

Run a car history report on your vehicle through a service such as Carfax.com, then print it to show prospective buyers.

Make sure you have in your possession: the title, no outstanding tickets, a bill of sale or vehicle transfer form (available from the DMV), up-to-date emissions certification, registration and a release of liability form.

After you've agreed on a price, ask for cash or a certified check. Do not accept personal checks or payment in installments.

Fill out the bill of sale, which buyer and seller both sign, and make copies for you both. Sign over the title and fill out a release of liability form (available at the DMV). Cancel your insurance for the car, so if anything happens to it you won't be responsible. Unless you have arranged otherwise, it's a good idea to add "Car is sold in 'as is' condition without any guarantee or warranty" to the bill of sale.

How much trunk space does a Jeep Grand Cherokee have when the seats are folded down?

I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and was wondering if a 90 inch couch would fit in the back?|||In pieces, yes. The long way? No.

But if you have a bungee cord or some ratchet straps, you could leave the rear hatch partially open, and secure it closed with the straps.

Have at it chap!

How do you reprogram a 99 Jeep Cherokee remote?

I lost my original remote but found one for my old jeep, it's for the same model and year but I need to find out how to reprogram it. Any help would be great!|||it is pogrammed to the passenger door module with the chrysler scan tool at a dealer.|||May have to take it to an Official Jeep/Chrysler dealer

and have them do it for you - may even be free!

Happy Holidays|||I haven't tried this to see if it works, but I found it by doing a google search. Hopefully it is the same remote so that you can do it:

http://www.thejeep.com/pilandprogram.htm鈥?/a>

If this one doesn't work then the only other thing that I can think of is to actually go to a Jeep dealership and have them reprogram it. I read a post somewhere where a guy said that the dealership he works at charges $45 just to reprogram the remote.

How do I go about buying a used Jeep Wrangler?

I'm a 22 year old guy from Michigan and I have wanted a Jeep ever since I first began driving. I've saved up around 5,000 to spend on one. I'm looking for a jeep thats a 94 to a 98 with under 120,000 miles and in decent condition with either a 2.8 4-cylinder or the 4.0 6-cyclinder. I have searched for about a week and I have yet to find a good buy. I'm not looking to mod it into an off-road vehicle maybe a small lift and some larger tires but thats about it. My question is what should I look for when buying one and how do I tell what its really worth (aside from blue book value, there's always debate on what the condition of the car really is in). Can someone give me any pointers?|||First off, if you are having no luck in finding a Wrangler around your area, you can try searching http://www.autotrader.com . They have a listing of Jeeps for sale around your area as well as up to 300 miles away, if you are willing to travel. It would be a good idea if you have a friend who is a mechanic to go with you and check the Jeep out for mechanical problems. Although most Jeeps are pretty reliable, there are a few people who dog them to death when they have them. You should look for rust, oil/fluid leaks under the Jeep, look for any dents under the undercarriage (this indicates that it has been off road and may have some damage underneath), look for oil on the motor, etc. Always test drive a vehicle before buying. If it doesn't crank or run good, don't get it. There's probably more trouble there than you are wanting to repair. Also, if the dealer says that you cannot test drive it, don't bother with it, just walk away. Use your common sense, if it doesn't look or run good, it probably isn't worth your time.

As for the value of the Jeep, get as much information as possible about the Jeep before you buy it and do a little research, such as on http://www.kbb.com to find out how much it should be worth.

I wouldn't buy from an auction. The thing with auctions is you don't know what you are going to get until you have already purchased it.

Hope this helps.|||Only buy what you want. Don't expect it to be perfect. That is the point of buying a used car. To repair things. Jeeps are fun to drive and own. You can buy replacement parts just about anywhere. Make sure if you get a 4.0L that the water pump has been replaced when the Jeep got to around 90,000 to 100,000. For some strange reason, just about all Jeep 4.0L have a thing for the water pump leaking or going out all together. Good luck and don't settle.|||If you want to buy a high quality used Jeep with a lowest price for the most reliable,I suggest you try auto auctions.

There are there kinds of car auctions.

Dealer only auctions --- only licensed dealers are allowed to buy or sell cars,You can not get in or bid without being a licensed car dealer or an employee.

Public auctions --- the public is allowed in.In fact, you usually cant by anything from public 'open' auctions because usually the pricing is too high.

Government and Police auctions --- Every day, the government confiscates, seizes and repossesses thousands of Vehicles. These vehicles are usually typically listed at 90% OFF their original value and auctions usually start at $100.

Two months ago,I bouht a near new SUV from online police auction. It only cost me $730 and i have not had one problem with it yet .

I followed the guide on

http://www.usedcarsinfo.info/index.php?t鈥?/a> .That site lists top 5 Police auction sites and help you choose the best one.

Good luck!|||Check the chassis for rust, make sure the floors and rockers are solid. I would go with the 4.0l if you plan on putting larger tires on it, you will notice an issure with highway speed if its a 2.8l. The stock stereo and speakers are complete junk so plan on buying some new ones. Also just check for obvious things like the any oil under the car, see how it starts and shifts, check the 4 wheel drive. And when you do get one, dont forget to wave to your fellow Jeepers!

Jeep Compass owners: How much does it cost you to refuel your tank?

From empty to a full tank?

Are you satisfied with your Jeep? Would you recommend buying one?|||it all depends on what someone is paying for gas

and if it has Ethanol on it

with E!0 or E15 any and all vehicles get a drop in fuel economy by around 4 - 5 MPG

and the Jeep only gets around 15 - 17 city MPG

OH well

our US government wants ethanol in all out gas

and that stuff kills the insides of a lot of the engines

What is the difference between a regular jeep and toyota jeep?

I want a jeep made by jeep and my step-father says that a toyota one would be better, but the thing I really like about jeeps are the way they look and if Toyota's looks any different I dont want it.|||You most likely want a wrangler. (rubicon hopefully). Toyota is a land cruiser. There's only one JEEP!!!|||no, a toyota is not half of what a jeep is, a yota is a joke. Stick with a Jeep , i used to have a 95 wrangler rio grande, now i have a rubicon ( not the wuss 4 door mommy model either) and i love it, its a beast.|||Well, toyota doesn't make a jeep, or any jeep-like vehicles any more, so I guess the difference is that in one case, we don't now what vehicle you're talking about.|||Toyota never made a Jeep! They did make the old FJ40 Landcruiser.

How do I release the tensioner for the serpentine belt on a jeep?

2001 Jeep Wrangler with 4.0 liter engine. We have checked the New repair manual and it explains how to change the belt, but gives no info on releasing the tensioner. The tool that auto-zone says to use doesn't seem to have a way of connecting to do the trick....any ideas?|||4.0 liter probably doesnt have a belt tensioner. Most 4 liter dodge engines you have to loosen the idler pully and then the screw on top of the idler pully screws the idler down when you loosen it. I could be wrong but I know that most 4 liters i have done are this way no tensioner just an idler pully that slides down when you loosen it. If it does have a tensioner then you should be able to use a 1/4 in ratchet. Insert into the hole on the end of the tensioner and pull back. I wrote to someone before about how to change a belt on a jeep. This is what I said.

not that easy there is no tensioner on a 4.0 liter. First you need a 15mm socket. There is a idler pully on the drivers side of engine in front of teh power steering pump. Loosen the bolt in the center of the pully. Do not take all the way out just loosen a few turns. Then once you have the idler loose you need a 13mm socket and extension. Look down on the back side of the idler kind of on top. THere is a bolt that is about 4 inches long that goes down through the back of the pully. Loosen that bolt and the idler pully will slide down taking tensioin off the belt. Do this until you fel the belt is loose enough to remove. Once you have the belt off put new belt back on follow the diagram on the sticker under the hood. Follow the steps in reverse order to tighten. First tighten the bolt until the belt can be twisted about 1/4 to 1/2 side to side. once the belt is tight enough go ahead and tighten the nut on the idler pully and your done. Before you start it is helpfull to look at the bolt on the back and look where the threads are this helps you to get correct tension. also make sure you have the sticker for the diagram under the hood before you start. If you sont make sure you draw the belt or get one. It can be a pain to put back if you have no diagram. Well sorry so long but wanted to be specific. Good luck.|||Like an OREO cookie;

"Well to do it, you unscrew it!"

It is not an automatic (spring loaded) tensioner. There is a nut in the center of the idler pulley. Loosen that nut about 2 turns, then there is a lond bolt on the top side of the pulley bracket that you unscrew to allow the pulley to slide. Adjust the tension on the new belt by tightening this bolt, then tighten the center nut.

How do I remove and replace the body cladding on my 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

I have a 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and I need to remove and replace the body cladding on the driver's door. I plan on going to a junkyard to find a replacement part. I'd like to know how to remove the body cladding and how to replace it. Also, how much should I expect to pay for one of these? Thanks!|||Pull off. There are little plastic tabs that run down the lower section of the door that hold the clading on. Dont do it if its cold out you will break the tabs that hold the cladding on. if it is cold warm it up with a hair dryer. as far as price I wouldnt think more than 10 bucks.|||Are you inquiring about the rubber molding on the doors and body panels?.

First, it is super in the winter. You can't beat that 4 wheel drive on snow packed streets. I have pulled an 8 X 10 trailer 500 miles and it did well. I must say that I am very disappointed in the gas mileage. I do well to get 17 mpg on the highway. It is small inside. My last car was a Honda CRV and except for the excellent 4 wheel drive the Jeep can't compete with the Honda. I got the Jeep because they were offfering 0 % financing and the best offer the Honda dealer could give me was 6%. It was easy to do the math on that one.|||Okay, I own a 2005 Jeep Liberty CRD, Diesel. I rated to tow 5,000 lbs. I am getting 23-24 city and 29-30 hwy. AND I LOVE THE DARN THING!!!|||I love my Liberty. It is a gas hog though, but not as much if you take it on the highway a lot. I wish I has more space in the back though. I think you have more back space in the escape, and you probably do about the same in gas as I do. But you are right, Jeep's are great for towing.

How can I make my Jeep look awesome?

I have an '01 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I want it to look cool, but keep its true 4x4 DNA, after all, it is a Jeep. Maybe new tires, lights, Does anybody have any websites that show pictures or products to add to a Jeep? Or if they have any good ideas how to make it look awesome?|||You could do a small budget boost lift from IRON offroad (link below) if you're on a budget. The kit cost's $120 and then you can fit a little bit larger tire on there. The benefit of this is that you can still have a full size spare that fits in the original spare location. If you go much larger than this you either 1) have to have a spare that does not match your tire size or 2) find an alternative place for the spare - just sitting in the back (unsafe!), up top in the cargo rack (lose clearance and not very much fun to get up and down) or a new rear bumper with tire carrier (fairly expensive).

If you're not on a budget then I would go with the 4" lift and a 32" or 33" tire!

I have a jeep wrangler 2000. The radiator is leaking at the petcock. Is it possible to just fix/replace the petcock, or do i need to replace the entire radiator? Jeep 1999 gas paddle seems stuck while running. Have to tap it a little to release the engine throttle?

At the time to stop the car, when I apply the cluch, the engine seems to be still racing. Like I have my foot on the gas paddle. I have to tap the gas paddle gently to make the rpm go down. This happens each time I stop after driving the jeep.

I think it is the accelerator cable that has gone bad. Please help.|||Hey there, I am sorry to hear about your problem with your Jeep, but I think I may a solution for you. The company I work for, Jig-A-Loo, makes a lubricating product that if sprayed into your pedals will not only loosen them up but also will go on clear and not leave dark greasy residue. If you spray it on the pedals and with the car off move the pedals back and forth a few times you should be fine and you wont waste gas or have to deal with your engine running harder than it needs to. You can get Jig-A-Loo at any of these retailers: http://www.jigaloo.com/us/e_store_locato鈥?/a> . If this doesn鈥檛 work, then it may be a much bigger problem than just a sticky pedal, and if that is the case then you will need to have that attended to by a mechanic, so no further damage occurs. Hopefully this can solve your stuck pedal situation and you can save a little money and gas, which is so crucial with these huge gas prices today. Good Luck!

Get a can of WD-40, lift the pedal off the roller and spray the pedal mechanism down. The pedal itself should be on a hinge so you can lift it up and see the roller. With the engine off, open the hood and have someone press the pedal so you can see what's moving. Repeat the process. If you can see the cable, you can try to put the little tube on the spray head of the WD-40 and work it down in the cable, but that's not likely without disassembly of the linkage at the engine (which you don't want to do unless you know what you're doing.)

Keep in mind many of these mechanisms are electronically controlled in later vehicles, so this may not help. It may be some sensor is acting up and you may need to take it to a mechanic.|||Use a little WD-40 on the throttle body return spring (where the throttle cable ends in the engine compartment). Also, with the motor off, work this mechanism back and forth, and see if it is working freely.

Also, keep in mind that it may not be the cable that is sticking, but could be a throttle position sensor that is going bad and not returning the vehicle to idle when you let off the accelerator. Tapping the throttle could be "waking up" the sensor.

Do you have a check engine light on? Does it run rough or seem to have a wavering RPM when the vehicle is at idle?

How do you replace the heater blower motor switch in a 03 jeep wrangler?

The button that controls the speed of the fan in my jeep wrangler no longer works in the first three positions. Therefore, I'm forced to use the highest setting when I am running the air or heat. I believe its the blower motor switch based on the parts list but I'm no sure how to replace it without having to take it in and pay a fortune. Is there any advice on how to fix this problem?|||It is not the switch that is bad. The problem is the blower motor resistor. This is located under the dash near the blower motor and is easy to change. They normally cost under $30.00 at any parts store and you can change it yourself with only basic hand tools and there is no wire cutting involved. The blower motor resistor regulates the amount of power that the motor can use by limiting the amount of ground it can use. When these resistors go bad you lose the slower settings until there is only the high setting. Hope I have been helpful.|||99% chance its the blower motor resistor, not the switch. See post below

300 for the front is too much. you should take a knowledgeable male friend in with you to have them explain the charges.

good luck.|||It'll cost around $100 for brake pads and another $100 for labor. Dealerships usually charge more, as well. So it probably isn't unreasonable to pay that much for front pads at a dealership. If you need new rotors, that sounds reasonable. Sometimes you can resurface the rotors, but if they are warped, you probably need new ones. I saved $200 by installing my own pads. However, I had to get the back ones done because I didn't have the special tool to compress the piston back.|||ALWAYS replace pads and rotors at the same time on a Liberty. How much are they charging you per hour? Shouldn't be more than 1.5 hours, and at $95/hr, you're paying $110 for pads and rotors, which is very reasonable.|||it should cost around $100-150.00

$55.00 for the service.

yeah they are taking advantage. $310.00 should get you an oilchange, tire rotation, front-end alignment and so on...|||at my dealer its $100.00 less than that. are they refacing or replacing the rotors? ask for a break-down on the repairs. my dealer is $77.00 an hour and brakes per axle should be 2 hours or less value line pads are around $65.00 dollars a set. so find out why so high? if they are not replacing the rotors, its way too much money. are they doing anything to the rear pads?|||100 bucks a wheel (plus tax), that's sounds about right for a brake job. That's why we call it the "Stealership"!|||Dealers don't discriminate -- they charge everyone high prices. If that's a quote for brake pads only, that's high excessive. If it's for new rotors and pads, it's probably reasonable, though I don't know what they cost on a Jeep.

How much does it cost for a new transmission for a 1997 Jeep Cherokee?

I'm planning to change my Jeep Cherokee's old transmission for a new one, well the transmission is still working good, but I can feel it like doesn't have enough power. It's an automatic transmission. Any suggestions? By the way the mileage of my engine is 150052 miles.

I don't know if that have to do with that I think it does. I don't know so much about mechanic cars, that's why I need your help guys...Thanks a lot!!!|||transmissions really don't give the car its power, the engine is what will give you the power loss problems. but if it is the transmission you could have it rebuilt at aamco. they charge $999 to rebuild your transmission and you get a year warranty. but you may have an electronically controlled transmission, so the cost may be higher.(call them for details)

also, make sure that you (if you have not) change your oil, spark plugs (distributor and plugs possibly as well), air/fuel filters. and add some injector cleaner to your gas tank before you have any work done to the transmission. also, have the transmission flushed. this should cost less than $200 and will increase your cars performance. DO NOT GO TO MIDAS OR OTHER CHAIN MECHANICS. they overcharge 3 times over. go to a local small time mechanic with a good reputation.

|||Could be any number of problems... If you aren't mechanically gifted, you will probably need to have someone that knows what they are doing take a look at it.

A short list of potential problems:

1. Your gas pump is dead (sends enough to start, but can't maintain pressure to keep running).

2. Your ballast resistor is burnt out or wire loose.

3. Clogged fuel filter.

4. TPS is borked (Throttle Position Sensor)

5. Vacuum leak or break

Your Jeep may be throwing an error code which would help you narrow down the problem. If you have a digital odometer, google "engine code digital odometer" and follow the instructions to get an error code reading from your odometer...then google the code to find out what it is.

Good Luck.

What would cause a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee to have slow acceleration?

I have to floor my jeep just to get it to move from a stop. I think the transmission might be going out but I don't know if something else might be causing it. Please help. Thank you!|||IT IS DUE TO YOU VEHICLE TAKING OFF IN 2ND GEAR YOU PROBABLY HAVE TRANNY CODES SUCH AS GOV PRESS SENSOR OR GOV SOL . OR MAYBE EVEN A SKEWED VSS ON THE OD UNIT ALL OF THESE WILL PUT THE PCM IN FAILSAFE AND GIVE YOU SECOND GEAR STARTS.|||One of these is more than likely the issue here.

- Bad spark plugs/wires. One is fouling causing the engine to mis-fire which results in poor acceleration and overall performance.

- Clogged Fuel lines, more than likely at the fuel filter which is either on the fuel rail, or by your tank on the fuel line.

- Bad IAC(Idle Air Control Sensor) If this is bad you'll notice it has poor idle as well as acceleration.

Your transmission is fine, if this was the culprit you would've just destroyed it or a driveshaft. Its symptoms of your engine, either minor maintenance or a sensor going back which usually will throw a CEL(Check Engine Light). Any local parts store will have a computer testing device to read a code to locate which part is needing replacement.

Good luck|||If it was running rich because of a bad oxygen sensor, the rich mixture will destroy the catalytic converter which will clog your exhaust. If your exhaust rattles when you run it, this is probably your problem being almost ten years old, with the original exhaust.

Otherwise, it is your intake. Change your air filter and try a tune-up.

A bad transmission will usually slips before it fails completely.

Try the easy fixes first, before trying anything else.|||When was the last time you took it in for an oil change?

How much of a lift can I put on a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport without upgrading the gears and drivetrain?

I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport and I want to put a lift on it and maybe some boggers, but I want to keep the most of it stock. How would I go about lift it and how much of a lift could I get without getting different gears and drivetrain?|||Well your jeep is equipped with a 8.25 Chrysler rearend and a Dana 30 up front with 355 gear stock. A 33" tire will be ok for a while but will put alot of stress on your transfercase, transmission, axles and u joints and will wear them out quickly. If you wan to stick with the stock gear i wouldnt recommend anything larger than a 31" maybe just maybe a 32", but 31 would probably be your choice because bigger than that will ruin your gas milage VERY BAD. You can clear 31" tires with a 3" lift perfectly and will offroad great. Hope this helps|||31" tires and a 3" lift will rub. What is the most likely cause for fuel leaking from my Jeep?

Its a slow drip. I just bought the car from someone, it had very little gas in it then. I filled it up Sunday bringing it home. We noticed the leak yesterday (Monday). The entire underside of the car is very rusty, I knew that before I bought it. Could it actually need a new fuel tank or is there a more likely cause?

Also - how much would it cost to get it fixed?

It is a 99 jeep grand cherokee.|||It is unlikely that your tank has rusted through so high up. Water is heavier than gas and causes rust and leaks on the bottoms of tanks, where it collects. You typed that the leak did not manifest until you filled the tank. That inclines me to consider that the leak is coming from the filler tube. i am guessing there is a rotten 2 or 3" rubber hose connecting the tank to the tube.

Labor rates at an independent shop are around $90/ hour nowadays. i am a novice and i could do that job in 2 hours; a pro should be quicker. The replacement hose shouldn't cost more than $20.

The leak could also be a decaying fuel line. There are smaller lines running in and out of the tank that could be going. If the tec. finds that one of those is to blame, then you should have him/her replace all of the little hoses in the immediate area as well.

i am suprised that the check engine light is not on. Does it at least come on when you turn the key to the on position? It should, and if it does not then get the bulb replaced.

Whatever the case, make a diagnostic appointment with a place that advertises free diagnostics, if you do not already have a steady wrench. Then fill the tank up and drive there, so the leak is good and obvious when you get there. i would suggest you then make a "fix it" appointment on a later day that you think the tank could be empty by. That way the tec. will have an easier time handling that gas tank if its gotta be removed to do the job. You do not want to pay the shop to siphon the tank. You do not want them to take too long trying to work with a full tank, either. They might not think to empty it first! Inform them of this possible strategy only if it seems like thay haven't written you off as a stupid woman.

i have girl friends who have had this problem, and there is no influencing those kinds of dudes. Have fun and kindly click me back when you find out more. i spent a bunch of time on this answer. i would be almost done with the job by now.

later, d|||you did not describe the source of the leak, is it from the tank itself, a fuel line the fuel filter itself... there are many possibilities.

rust does not suggest fuel though for what it is worth. more than likely a fuel line may be damaged, they are softer materials than the tank, and a lot cheaper!|||It could be a number of things and sometimes the leak is easy to find and others the entire fuel system needs to be checked due to the fact that the leak could be running down a line before it is dripping off. It could be a leaking seam in the gas tank itself, a leak around the connections of the in line fuel filter, if you have one, or a poor connection at any point. A new fuel tank is going to run you somewhere around $130 plus labor and lines are of course less. Good luck

How difficult is it to remove the rear seat on a Jeep Wrangler?

I am getting a 2006 Jeep Wrangler Sport and just wondering if it will be easy to take the back seat in and out. Also if you have one is there anything I should know?|||Piece of cake. The rear seat mount changed in 2003. The seat tips forward and the spring loaded mounts detach, then you simply lift the seat out. Its actually harder to put the seat back in - the trick is push the seat forward after you've lined up the mounts and brought the seat back to the upright position.|||I have an 06 unlimited. Mine has a long latch bar, which is the first thing you see below the seat if you are looking straight at it. I unlatch that and flip the seat forward and boom, it's out. I second the other tip about putting it back in. Replacing is more difficult.

What is the largest engine that will fit in a 1995 Jeep Wrangler?

I have a '95 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 and im thinking about a swap whats the biggest engine that will fit and line up?|||4wd.com makes conversion kits to put a chevy 350 in your jeep. beware though, because its too much torque for stock axles and transmissions.|||The only limit is your wallet. As stated earlier, yes you can easily get the parts to install a chevrolet 350..but the drive train cannot take it.

Easier,,do the stroker conversion on the 4 liter. On Chassis dyno got 51% more HP and 62% more torque. The rear axle is the weak spot..at least on a Cherokee, but the wrangler is lighter. So long as you do not go crazy with tire size..worth the risk. If you go larger tires..Ford 8.8 conversion.

Beyond this, Viper, Vette and 500 inch caddilac engines have been done..but you REALLY better have good credit.

Good Luck|||well im sorry to tell ya but the only engine that will line up is the 4.0 if you want to put in a larger engine you can BUT you will have to make alot of modifications with brackets, driveshafts etc. My boyfriend has been a mechanic for 20 years and trust me he knows his stuff and this what he told me to let you know. good luck|||believe it or not the wrangler hase a very large engine compartment. I've seen 454 big block chevy's in CJ's and Wranglers. though i wouldn't recomend more that a small block ford 302 / 351w or chevy 350

I sell motor mounts and conversion kits at www.mesa4x4.com|||You can fit there anything as big as a 454.

I'll sugest to use a small block chevy 350, that is 5.7lt or a ford 351 (5.8lt).

Easy to find parts on both of them.

Easy to find donors too.

It could make it easy if you put the whole package, that is engine, transmission and transfercase. If this should be your best scenario the ford transfercase is drivers side, same as your front axle pumpkin. Unless you decide for a 95 or newer chevy package.

What would it cost to replace the headliner in a 1989 Jeep Cherokee?

To do yourself, yes, not hard, but need at least two people. Go to good cloth shop or sewing shop. They WILL have the material.

The head liner will come out the back of the Jeep by removing the screws in side panels and lights.

Get spray adhesive. This is contact cement, so it goes on both liner and cloth. Do in Well ventilated area..don't ask how I know that!

Good Luck.

PS Add up the price of cloth and adhesive. If too close to having it done, then let professional do it, but you can do it.

How hard is it to replace a radiator on a 1997 Jeep Cherokee?

I need to replace the radiator on my 1997 Jeep Cherokee. I plan to do the work myself. I'm mechanically inclined but have never replaced a radiator. How difficult is it to do?|||We got pretty quick at doing these on a friends Jeep when she tried a series of used radiators.

Just drain the coolant. Usually by removing the lower radiator hose. It makes a mess so be prepared to catch the potentially toxic fluid. Keep your pets away.

Remove the plate that connects the two sides of the front end. This plate covers the radiator.

Disconnect the AC condenser mounting tabs.

Remove the electric fan and the shroud from the mechanical fan. You can leave the shroud wrapped around the fan just disconnect it from the radiator.

Remove the radiator and swap in the new one. Reconnect every thing and fill it back up with coolant.

The 4.0 often traps air in the head when you swap out the radiator. The coolant level will drop after a few heat cool cycles as the air works its way out.

How do you put a stereo and speakers in a 1978 jeep without spending a fortune?

I don't want anything fancy cuz basically I don't want it stolen and if you've ever ridin in a jeep you hear more of the wind and the road than anything.

Anyone got any suggestions.|||Go to a site such as www.sonicelectronix.com and look under their marine audio equipment if you're really concerned about rain. Lot of stuff there designed to handle the water. As for the wind noise, if you use a soundbar mounted to the top rollbar that helps by pointing the speaker at your head. What can I do to get my Jeep ready for some off roading adventures?

I am getting ready to bring my stock 1999 4cyl 5 speed Jeep Wrangler on a green/blue train guided off roading event at Rausch Creek Off Road Park. What can/should I do to get my Jeep up and running in prime condition and prepare it for all of the abuse that is off roading? Links would be great! Thanks.|||If there is nothing wrong with it run it as is. A couple things to make sure you have before you go, 1 make sure you have recovery points (tow hooks in front and back) 2 a tow strap. Other then that i say go out and have a great time.|||Green trails are usually fire roads or equivalent. I used to live up an old logging road you'd probably call a green, visitors would regularly lose mufflers and occasionally high-center full sized pickups, we even had to tow out a lifted Wrangler one time--it got high-centered axle-deep in a puddle. I used to drive that road in a Honda Civic wagon, which would bottom out regularly, though I only got it stuck once. You can handle these trails in a stock compact car if you pay attention and know what you're doing. A stock Wrangler will have no problems unless you do something foolish.

I'd say the most important thing is to have your vehicle in decent running condition. Don't go off-roading in a car that will leave you stranded on dry pavement. Carry a tool kit, a winch or come-along, and a couple jugs of water. Good tires and a spare are absolutely a must!

Blue trails are a little more rugged, take things slow and use a spotter for anything you're not absolutely sure about. It wouldn't hurt to add a lift kit, taller tires (pref. with double-walls and snow or mud tread), upgraded shocks--but I'm not sure if any of that is actually necessary. Pick your lines well and you'll be ok.|||Cann and dir are right, and if you are camping over night, cold beer and big cuts of tri-tip.

What causes a 2000 Jeep Cherokee to take atleast 3 tries before it will start?

Everytime I go to start my Jeep it takes me atleast 3 tries before it will start, sometimes I have to hit the gas. Is it the fuel pump? If so how much would it cost to get a new one? I am desperate to get it fixed!!|||I too was a Jeep Cherokee owner, same year. Let me guess, the 4.0L? This is common in them, very common. I won't go into what it is exactly, because it's long and complicated to explain. Which also means, it's an expensive fix. However, never fear. There actually isn't a true problem, or anything wrong at all. Your Jeep will always start for you, and it's more of an annoyance than a true mechanical issue.

Some things you can do to make sure it starts better is to make sure the spark plugs are changed regularly and running a little fuel additive such as an octane boost or injector cleaner won't hurt. Just don't do that for every tank, that gets expensive and you can in time clog the motor up with the residues they leave when they burn.

So in the meantime, don't worry. Your Jeep is exactly like everyone elses'. They're notorious for it. Oh just thought of it, one other tip to help, is turn the key to the "on" position and hold it there for 5 seconds, then turn it the rest of the way to start.|||that's what u get 4 buying a american car.

How can I add horsepower on my jeep?

I have a 2007 Jeep wrangler and was wondering what I can do to add horsepower and or better response when accelerating.

On my jeep its an automatic with a 3.8 V6.

Thanks.|||gut the catalytic converter (but leave the cat on the car to pass inspection) gives you a free flowing exhaust adds some horsepower.|||you can add a new exhaust pipe and weld it.|||I would recommend a cold air intake system depending on what brand you get you can add 10 to 15 horse and you also gain torque and throttle response.|||get:

a high flow catalytic converter

high flow muffler

2.5inch exhaust pipe

air aid intake

you could always spend $4000

and get a turbo kit|||get a computer chip from 4wd.com|||The only proven ways to add horsepower are:

1. a cold air intake (I like the Mopar kit that comes with a throttle body spacer myself)

2. new exhaust system

You can get the feeling of more hp by changing your gearing - faster off the line, but limited top end.

You may get more horsepower out of a chip, but I've double check that you won't void any warranty.|||The only way to really increase the horsepower is to swap engines. My 03 Rubicon with the 4.0 6 will outperform your 07....just the size of the engine displacement alone!

I added an AiRaid system-got some more power, little throatier 'roar' and noticed the rpm's are lower...but I wouldn't take bets that it added that much horsepower.

As for other comments...I've heard many claims that a new 'chip' will increase it...haven't YET found a single jeeper that has one...and you'd figure that us real 'off roaders' would want all the horsepower we can get. As for removing the catalytic convertor...a REAL tech would know that doing that would instantly screw up your computer system-it goes haywire any time the convertor has problems. Removing it? Against federal law anyways.

For better response on accelerating...buy something instead of a jeep. They are NOT made for acceleration, high speed starts, spinning wheels... so why damage all the drivetrain trying to show off like a mall crawler? Use them for what they are intended...off road, pulling the mall crawlers out of mud, fun stuff like that!

I am looking to buy an old Jeep Wrangler. What was the first model year to offer an automatic?

I would also like to know how easy upkeep and maintenance on jeep wranglers is. I consider myself mechanically inclined. But as far as part availability and price goes I am lost. I don't care how old the jeep is or how many miles as long as I can keep it running with low to medium involvement. Any suggestions on a year?|||I bought a 1993 Jeep Wrangler 5 speed with a soft top for $2000. It did have an oil leak but I fixed it for 100 dollars. It has been very reliable for me. As long as you have a good transmission and engine, there shouldnt really be anything to worry about. just take care of it by doing regular things like oil changes.|||As for the automatic transmission, that was first offered with the CJ7, which started production in 1976.

Parts availability is excellent for just about any jeep out there, I have rebuilt a CJ2A and CJ3B and never really had a problem finding parts unless I was looking for completely original "NOS" parts. Quatratech, 4wd and jeep4x4center seem to be some of the most complete when it comes to parts. There are a few others but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

What kind of oil should I use with a 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport?

It has 4 wheel drive and it is automatic transmission. Thanks.|||Use one of the high mileage oils. Stay away from Pennzoil and Quaker State as they seem to build up sludge in older engines. 10W30 in summer and 5W30 in winter.

Hope these answered your question.|||I use Formula 1, 10W-30 all year. best results.|||i would summize it is over 100,000 miles? if it is the 4.0 liter 6 cylinder then you should EASILY get over 200,000 miles out of it if not much more. In my humble opinion based on having owned 3 similair cherokees, i would suggest first to use 'slick 50' %26amp; then to use 10w-30 or 5w-30. Use the 5w if it leaks or burns more oil. Lastly, i would strongly suggest to not use any oil that is synthetic because they have smaller molecules and thus will leak easier in a high mileage engine that was manufactured that many years ago.|||it depends idk what you did with your owners manual but it would tell you in there otherwise it depends jeep made 2 diffrent engines for the cherokee but im guessing you have the 4.0 six cylinder witch takes 5-6 quarts of 10-w-30 you could put 10-w-40 but 30 will do the only difference is 10-w-40 is a thicker oil

My jeep already has 3 inch lift and i want to know if coil spacers will work?

i have a jeep cherokke with a 3 inch lift, i want a little more lift but dolnt want to spend alot of $. Is it possible i could buy those spacer things that go between the body and the springs. And longer rear shackles for the leaf springs. Would this work for a jeep that already has a lift?|||What kind of lift do you have? I believe that if you have a suspension lift, the spacers won't add anything to it. I think you would be better off with a body lift.

As for all of those people naysaying the spacers. I have had a 2" spacer lift and 1" body lift on my 99 TJ for YEARS (like 7) and I have never had any problems with it. They have never come out, they haven't fallen apart and I have wheeled the **** out of my Jeep.

So, I have no complaints with mine, but like I said, I don't think you can use spacers with a suspension lift. They don't work with one.|||I would first think through what you want the spacers for. IF you really do want/ need them, make sure your shocks have enough travel to handle the additional space. How do you plan to install the spacers? It can be a relatively easy job on a sttraight axle vehcile, if you remove both wheels and drop one side of the axle way down. Spring compressors can also be used but they scare me to death. Also, anything biggger than a 1" spacer is generally not a great idea.|||Why are you looking at adding spacers? What size tires are you wanting to run? Will they work...yes, but if you are having a bit of tire clearance the best idea would be to trim the fenders. Also remember that a shackle lifts approx 1/2 of the additional length. If the shackle is 1" longer than stock, you will only get 1/2" of lift. 2" longer will get 1" lift. The longer the shackle the more unstable the vehicle becomes.

http://www.cherokeeforum.com

http://www.cherokeetalk.com|||A spacer kit can add you more lift but their not the best way to go. If your just looking for better tire clearence, id just go with a body lift. A two or three inch body lift should be fine. The only problem with the spacers are if you go offroading alot, too big of a spacer can cause the spring to come out. Its rare. but it happens.|||Do you live in a trailer park? No they're junk.

Tomorrow go to the public library and look in Chilton's Auto Repair manual. and it will show you everything. Good luck.|||ok here it goes....... theres 2 ways you can do this thats do it by the book or do it your own way. the book requires taking the star screws off the metal dash i think it 3. but you also have to fold the windshield down so you have to also unbolt the 3 additional starscrews that holds the windshiel to dash also. you do this cause you have to pull the whole dash off enough to get a tool back there. under the winsheild frame there 6 torx screws to take off. if you have a hardtop yes that has to come off too along unbolting the front rollbars from windshield frame. now my way yes i folded windshield down but the torx screws under my jeep windshield were rusted so that wasnt happening. i just unbolted the corner of dash and took a plybar and bend the corner far enough to unbolt speakers and take them out. it was so time consuming and difficult i just bolted 2 out of the 4 nuts to hold it in. both my front speakers were shot so it took me and my brother 4hrs to do the project

It should just thread right out with a socket. if you want to be sure that you don't drain your battery until you can fix it you can just pull the dome light fuse out.|||close the door|||simple and handy... the switch from the dome light has 3 positions (99% of the cases), (and your 98 jeep is surely in that 99%)

let's name those positions 0,1 and 2.

0 means off

1 means "dome lights on (ALWAYS)"

2 means "dome lights on when one/more door/s is/are open/ed"

most of the people use the dome lights in position 2. however in your case it's not suitable to leave the switch on 2. try using 0 and when you need light in your car (to search the keys, mobile phone, etc) use 1 but don't forget after you found your keys, mobile phone, etc to switch it back to 0.

Why do the electronics in my 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee stay on after shutting off the car?

The Jeep i recently purchased has a small issue. For some reason the electronics in the car still are completely functional even when the car is turned completely off and the key is out of the ignition. This is extremely annoying as it also causes the battery to run down. Is this a problem exclusive to jeeps? The car came with an aftermarket Sony Xplod deck, could faulty wiring be causing this? Thank you.|||I had similar probs, a mere $4000.00 put it right|||Sounds electrical too me obviously.. I would open the hood and look at the fuse box, and wiggle the wire harness's inside the engine compartment and see if that fixes it..

As for electronics staying on there is a switch on the left hand side that moves up and down. I had a problem just like this where the lights and everything would stay on even after i took key out. Turned out my knee must have hit this switch and pushed it up all the way. This switch turns on all the electronics in the car and the lights even without the key in the iginition. This way you can have the car parked while you eating or something without the car actually on.|||I'm betting a previous owner has bypassed the accessory relay and has the electronics wired directly to the battery.

What is the biggest engine that can fit in a jeep cherokee sport?

I have a 95, 4 door jeep cherokee sport with the 4.0 inline 6 engine in it currently. Ive started having problems with it and have realized if i want to keep the car i should change engines, also i want a flat new engine for it. i want a big engine in it cause i love mudding. my question is can i fit a hemi in it or no?|||It ain't worth it my friend, just stick to getting a new 4.0. The 4.0 I6 is a fantastic engine and would push many more horsepower if you get the right parts. Take the huge amount of money and time you will need to put a different engine in and invest it in a new 4.0 and aftermarket upgrades, you'll find you have saved a huge bundle of cash and months worth of painful work.

Good luck!|||Mmm, I have a 1991 Cherokee, and the engine has a HOLE in it, and I am not having any problems from it. Are you sure you need an engine swap?

Seriously, a 4.0 will easily last 200k miles or more.

The straight-six is an excellent choice for any kind of off-roading you may want to do.

Still, if you are insistent, I have heard of people getting good results from dropping a 350 into a Cherokee.

You might want to hit these guys up, I hear they do good work as far as getting different motors into vehicles.

http://www.advanceadapters.com/|||You probably can fit a small block V-8 in there, but make sure your driveline components are up to the task. Most of the transfer cases and differentials in those jeeps are barely suitable for handling the power of the 4.0 6 cylinder engine, and a V-8 will certainly show you the weakest link in the system. Good luck.|||you said the magic word; mudding. in that case, you can fit any motor you want. and when i say fit, i mean lots of pushing and shoving.

you can fit a 302 in there, its been done before. the problem is besides the transmission, is you have to change all your wiring as well.

its much cheaper and easier to try to get another 4.0 jeep motor. they have plenty of mudding power.|||You can fit a 350 in there but any V8 is going to put tremendous stress on the uni body frame rails. Your best bet is to think about taking that 4.0 and stroke it to a 4.6. This is accomplished by using a crank out of a 258. Talk to your local machine shop and see what they have to say about it. Get the whole engine balanced and it will scream.

Current Jeep owner looking for a different vehicle?

I'm in the process of thinking of getting a newer vehicle for the fall. I currently drive a 98 Jeep Cherokee Sport, in fair condition. It has about 135k miles on it. I love the platform of the Jeep, from outer look to interior feel. Are there any previous Jeep owners out there that opted for a different make and model (any company, not just Jeep), and if so, what would you recommend for someone that's been driving a Jeep model for a very long time?|||I currently own a Jeep and I like it very much. That said, I recently had a chance to drive a Subaru Forrester while looking for a house up north. It was the real estate agents vehicle. She didn't want to drive on some of the backroads in the area. I was quite impressed with the Forrester. Comfort, handling, ride were very good.|||Yes, I had 93, 95 and then 98 Grand Cherokees, the overall quality seemed to go down with each, the 93 was the least trouble free. I switched to a Toyota 4 Runner. No issues at all except for oil changes tires. There are many issues that bothered me about the Jeep in retrospect, but the most significant is the steering. Jeeps have a primitive suspension and steering, the power steering is over boosted and requires constant corrections, Toyota is smooth, solid, steering is precise, the vehicle goes where pointed without constant corrections. Makes long drives much less exhausting and actually fun.|||If you love the Jeep why not just buy a newer one?

I tried this - I said 'I've been driving a Wrangler since I learned to drive, I want to try something more "refined".' I bot a Ford Explorer. I drove it for 18 months and sold it and bought another Wrangler.

You can't go back, don't try. But if you must...

Nissan X-Terra or Pathfinder depending on your budget.

Toyota Highlander or FJ Cruiser.

Chevy Equinox

Honda Pilot

But I still think you should just look at a newer Cherokee, you already know you like them.

Why does my Jeep vibrate when I accelerate?

I have a 1992 Jeep Cherokee. Recently it started vibrating whenever I accelerate. The vibrations are bad when I start accelerating and continue to varying degrees at different speeds. Sometimes the vibrations will go away almost completely and stay away as long as I maintain that speed. But once I change speeds the vibrations return.

It feels like the body of the Jeep is vibrating, not necessarily the engine. There are no vibrations when I'm idling. The whole Jeep vibrates, but it is worse in the rear. I suspect that it may be my tires, as their treads are right at 2/32", but I want to be sure before I drop $500 on tires. Any thoughts on what this problem could be? Thanks for the ideas.|||It could be your tires, but it could also be u-joints or maybe a dozen other things. It's probably best to have a professional check out your Jeep for you because it could be a safety issue or cause more damage if not corrected.|||Yes, I would get a set of some good tires and make sure they are balanced.... you might need a front end alignment as well.|||Check your driveshaft and the U joints. IF your wanting to diagnose this yourself. raise the rear end so both wheels are off the ground (use jack stands) and put it in gear, watch the driveshaft, if it wobbles it is either bent, or the U joints are wasted.

Be careful!|||It could be your tires... could be, or it could be your U joints, or even your drive shaft...|||If it were the tires they would vibrate at a steady speed also. I would look at motor mounts or u joints.|||It's probably tire balance if it gets worse the faster you go. But the way you describe the problem sounds like you have an engine misfire. If you haven't had a general tune up of your ignition for many years, you may need new spark plugs and plug wires as well as a new distributor cap and rotor if your car is equipped with them. An ignition misfire would tend to be worse whenever you were loading down the engine more by accelerating, especially up a hill. Also, if the problem abates when you shift to force a higher engine RPM, that's another sign of a misfire.|||bad u-joints or a bad trans. or motor mount. u-joints are most likely the problem|||You have a broken motor or transmission mount. The engine or the transmission gets pinned to the frame or body on acceleration|||sounds like your universal joints are bad, have them checked.|||check your driveshaft universal joints.|||could be the u-joints, bent wheel, tourque converter, take it to a shop to check it out...|||it could be a broken motor mount.

I was glad to hear that!

If the Jeep shudders around corners your U-joints (if you have a 4 wheel drive) or bearings need to be replaced.

Not a huge expense if you know an honest mechanic.

Enjoy your Jeep. I love them!|||They have transmissions that slip when they get older and with that many miles youre lucky that it still drives.|||Transmission problems|||Sounds like you ran over a puppy.|||the rocks and the bumpy roads D= goverment dont pay for better roads x(|||opossums|||It is your transmission. I am 99% sure of that. Due to the age of the car and the miles on it your transmission is probably circling the drain. It is costly to fix but if you love your jeep you may want to consider it. Or you could always get a new car, there is nothing like buying a new car.|||With 238K miles on it, its probably dying.|||I agree with the transmission slippage... But I will go one further. If it is a standard you need a new clutch plate... I its a automatic you might need a new torque converter

How do I change my power windows on my jeep wrangler to manual windows?

When i bought the jeep the guy put power windows in and its so frustrating when i take off my doors off or when its time to put them back on rewiring the windows. I'd love to change it back to manual, so i was wondering how much it would cost and how to do it.|||Check the junkyards, maybe find a set of doors you can rip the insides out of and swap them over. May have to just buy the doors and then gut them at your house or something. Possible that the guy still has the old regulators and such?

You will need to change over the window regulator, and the door panel so that you have a spot for the crank too.|||You would need to run to a wrecking yard and find one that has manual windows.

All that you would need to do is to remove the motor and mechanism, and place the manual regulator in its place. you would need to be sure to get the crank handles and trim, then most likely cut a hole in your door panel to accommodate the crank.

How do I fix my 2007 jeep wrangler from tire wobbeling aka death wobbeling?

I am having a problem where my front tires on my jeep wobble bad. My jeep has about a 4 inch lift with 35 inch tires. The wobbeling tends to start when i go under 45 mph as soon as i get to 45 mph or above it doesnt wobble nearly as bad. How do i fix it?|||Tire balance, suspension, much else to check...

DO NOT let Stealership tell you it's your Steering Stabilizer

Changing SS will only mask underlying problem which could get unknowingly worse. I've heard Band-Aid on Skin Cancer analogy.|||take it to a tire shop and have the tires balanced and checked for warpage on the wheel.

then have them check the hub and bearing and see if they are still good.

you got something loose in there...

How do you set the clock on a 2006 Jeep Liberty factory 6 disc changer?

There is a time button, I've tried holding it down and pressing seek, up-down, etc but nothing seems to set the clock. Does anyone have a Liberty or similar Jeep with the 6 disc changer that knows how you set the time? Thanks.|||Clock Setting Procedure

1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON or ACC position

and press the time button. Using the tip of a ballpoint pen

or similar object, press either the hour (H) or minute (M)

buttons on the radio.

2. Press the H button to set hours or the M button to set

minutes. The time setting will increase each time you

press a button.

The H and M buttons are to the right on the digital screen area.

Why does my Jeep's engine rev up and down when I start it cold?

I have 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. When I start it in the morning the engine doesn't idle like it used to- it revs up and down for about 45 seconds until it stabilizes. The car has 65,000 miles on it. Is this a problem? If so, what is the fix and what will it approximately cost?|||It could be your transmission fluid or it could be a worn gasket. It could range anywhere from 50-500$

Who rocks their jeep with the doors off?

so i'm planning on buying a wrangler within the next couple months.

i'm considering taking the doors off, just wondering if anyone has any tips/recommendations.

do most of you keep a set of soft doors for when it rains? or just a poncho? any issues with rust, or do the floor drains do a pretty good job getting the water out?

security? anyone using proximity sensor alarms?

overall any info for a new perspective jeep owner would be appreciated.

thanks!|||If I rock my jeep too hard it rolls over, doors have nothing to do with it.

I have a set of soft doors for my 90 YJ, and usually leave them on year round. The full hard doors sit in the cellar, maybe I should see if I can sell them.

If they weren't so expensive I'd get a set for my '09, but $450 is more than I want to pay for them.

I have gone offroad without doors on the '09, ran a trail that was under 3' of water. It drained out in %26lt; 2 minutes, took a couple of days for the carpets to dry. No big deal, that's what Jeeps do.

If you drive on the road without doors in the rain, as long as you keep moving you'll stay pretty dry. Sitting at stoplights you'll get a little wet though.

I don't bother with any sort of alarms or anything like that. I NEVER leave anything in it that I want to keep, it's that simple.|||I have a Cherokee but I do my rock crawling with the doors off. I have to pull the fuse for the dome light and have also removed the door chime.
