How much would an engine swap in a jeep cost?

I own a 1997 Jeep Wrangler. 4 cylinder. 5 speed. It has about 191k miles so I was wondering how much it would cost to replace the current engine with a new one. I was thinking about a V8 or at least a 6 cylinder. What do I need to change and about how much for parts?|||Look up Novak, that's all they do is parts for Chevy V8 (LS1-LS3) swaps into Jeeps|||It sounds like you intend to do most or all of the work yourself, since you only asked about parts, not labor costs.

No matter what you do, you'll have to change the transmission as well. The AX-5 transmission behind the 4-cylinder won't hold up to anything bigger.

a 4.3 GM Vortec is a popular swap, you can get cost estimated for that swap on google.

a chevy small block v-8 is also popular, and used ones are fairly easy to find.

Getting a used 4.0 L-6 would probably be the easiest, and there are used ones out there for a reasonable cost. If you want to upgrade, consider a 4.7 L-6 Stroker motor, very powerful and high torque, but not inexpensive.

basically, the cost is up to you. It's as expensive or inexpensive as you care to make it. If you really need a dollar estimate, anywhere between $1500 for a used 4.0 and AX-15 transmission, up to $12,000 for a crate Hemi, you'll probably want to go with the NV3500 transmission in that case.

Always remember that in order to get your Jeep legally registered, the replacement motor must be the same year or newer than the model year of the Jeep. This is a federal EPA requirement and cannot be waived by any state.|||The pricing depends on where to go and the type of engine you put on.

The same 4 cyl engine doesn't require more than just swapping. I estimate a $ 700.00 fee + the engine at a mech that is not a thief (most are).

If you wanna upgrade to a 6 or 8 cyl you also gotta change a lot of parts and the price will increase a lot more.

Even the upgraded engine will cost twice as much if its a V8
